Southside is the debut album of the Scottish band Texas. The album was released on 25 July 1989[1] by Mercury Records (UK) and Vertigo Records (Canada & North America). The album was procedded by the release of an EP entitled Everyday Now (1988) which takes it's name from the album's third single, "Everyday Now" which was released on 5 August 1989.

Background and release

The albums first single "I Don't Want a Lover" was released in January 1989 and debuted at number 8 in the UK.[2] Its second single was "Thrill Has Gone" and this time debuted at 60. Its third single "Everyday Now" only managed number 44, which was a lot better in terms of the previous single, "Thrill Has Gone"'s debut charting position. The fourth single from Southside did not better "Prayer For You" was released and debuted at number 73 in the UK and managed 3 weeks in total on the UK Singles Charts.

The album debuted at number three in the UK and spent 29 weeks on the charts.[3] The album, however, faired successful in other European music markets, with successful charting positions in the likes of France. Lead singer Sharleen Spiteri had said that, Texas were on the road to being dropped by label-Mercury Records due to the lack of the UK Success of the singles released after "I Don't Want a Lover", however it was the success of the singles and the album in other various European countries that had kept them on the label.
